A blog is a great way to open up the dialogue between your startup and the online community. It is something we (Cahoots) have been doing for a few months now while we refine our concept and product. Our blog has been a fantastic tool, asset, and outlet for us. We are attracting a growing audience to engage with on a regular basis.

Does your website or blog get complaints from visitors because of how it displays on the screen? Homepreneurs sometimes gets comments that a page or post doesn’t show up well in a browser.
Several reasons this might happen:
- Your screen resolution is too low. Try increasing the resolution. Right click on an empty area of the desktop window and from the menu, choose “screen resolution”. You will see this window:
Change the resolution settings as needed.
- Your Internet browser is outdated. The major browsers are: Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox (Mozilla), Safari (Apple), and Chrome (Google). Each has several versions available and patches within those versions. Yours may be out of date. Download and install the latest update possible.
- The display adapter or BIOS drivers need updating. Go to the computer manufacturers website – Dell.com, HP.com, Sony.com, Lenovo.com, Toshiba.com, Acer.com, etc. and look for the support and drivers tab. Many websites have automatic detection to check your adapter settings.
If these three steps aren’t working, try using Quirktools to give you a general idea of what a website looks like on various size screens. Below are two example of Quirktools page and how Homepreneurs is displayed, the first on a regular monitor, the second on a tablet. Quirktools has many options available. Try testing your own website.
One of these solutions should resolve your display issue. If not, you may be using a browser that is incompatible with the website or blog display. Try using one of the other major browsers to see if this corrects the issue.

Yesterday was a good day for Homepreneurs. I met with Lindsay Coats – StellarEdgePr – to discuss some changes to this blog. Expect to see more user-friendly navigation and some new features. A new theme is possible too – Lindsay is busy working on this project as I type! Yesterday also was a better than average day for visits to this blog: 313 views from 200 + visitors.
I always want to know the source of my visits, how they get here, and the search terms used. This helps me develop better content in the future and use appropriate social media resources: Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter.
WordPress provides some useful statistics and I want to share them with you. As a blogger or home business owner, you must pay attention to your market niche and meta data. Google analytics and WordPress statistics are designed for this purpose. Below are some screen captures that show what I see in my WordPress dashboard:

The top image shows the search terms used in Google and other search engines to find Homepreneurs. The center clip is how visitors got to Homepreneurs. Clearly, Pinterest won yesterday. Finally, the bottom image shows which posts were viewed the most. All this information or meta data (data about data) is incredibly useful for me and any one that blogs, runs a website or a business.
Analyzing this data, I determine that the majority of visits – at least yesterday – were interested in Work From Home Jobs and used Pinterest to find Homepreneurs. This also supports the marketing idea that pictures make a big difference in a blog. Pinterest is all about pictures and images – I suggest you explore and use Pinterest for your products.

In most Homepreneurs articles, I insert a picture or image. They aren’t always easy to find – legally – and unless one is a graphic artist (not me) it is hard to find the image you want. It also takes time to search websites, and copy, crop, and place in these blogs. So why put pictures in your blog posts?
